Every year, the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management recognizes students for their accomplishments in both academics and leadership. The RHAA sponsors four of these awards: Entrance Scholarship, Green Award, Spirit of Community Award, and Commitment to the Industry Award. Congratulations to Marco Briganti (Industry Award), Olivia Howell (Entrance Scholarship), Katherine Lo (Spirit of Community Award), and Alexandra Hrach (Green Award) for their achievements this year.
The annual Hospitality and Tourism Management Awards Ceremony was held at the Carlu on November 13th. 46 awards were given to 40 students. Over $110,000 was given out to this year’s recipients. The Ted Rogers School of Management’s new dean, Dr. Daphne Taras attended and said a few words of greeting to the award winners and their friends and family.
This year’s Industry Award recipient was 1988 alumnus Glenn Brown, President and CEO of Bento Sushi. In 2002, he merged his wholesale sushi company, Makisushi, with Bento Sushi and became a partner. Bento Sushi is Canada’s largest sushi company. They operate over 700 sushi bar locations, 25 retail locations, and 6 factories in Canada and the United States.
